The Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (CEERE) conducts research and provides education and technical assistance for a range of clean energy technologies and applications. With support from state and federal partners, we provide services at no cost to industrial, commercial and municipal clients, helping them to identify and implement cost-effective measures that reduce their operating costs, greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts.

Based in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, CEERE offers valuable training and research experience for graduate and undergraduate engineering students.

In the past 35 years, we have conducted assessments and feasibility studies at more than 800 facilities around the northeast, helping them to save millions of dollars in energy costs and billions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Our research has informed energy policy and program development, and our graduates have gone on to found energy consulting companies and work for top energy efficiency programs. CEERE houses these programs:

Industrial Assessment Center
Through the U.S. Department of Energy's IAC program, we provide no-cost energy and resource assessments for small to midsized manufacturing and water/wastewater treatment facilities in New England.

Combined Heat and Power
As part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Technical Assistance Partnership, we offer no-cost screenings, technical assistance, economic analysis, and expert advice to help determine if CHP, also known as cogeneration, is a good fit for sites in New York and New Jersey. We also offer support for CHP in Massachusetts on a case by case basis; contact us for more information.

Massachusetts Energy Efficiency Partnership
MAEEP is a training program that supports deployment of energy efficiency technologies and tools to the industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors by offering technical training workshops in Massachusetts.

UMass Clean Energy Extension
CEERE is a partner in this program, which is based in the UMass Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment and works to advance clean energy technologies in Massachusetts.

Green Your Bottom Line in Food and Beverage Businesses
CEERE is a partner with other UMass programs and government agencies in this initiative to promote and support energy and environmental measures that can reduce pollution and operating costs in food and beverage facilities.
