Bedford MA
The town of Bedford draws most of its raw water from two sources, the MWRA system and the town's Shawsheen wellfield. The MWRA water comes to Bedford from the MetroWest Tunnel through Lexington and into Bedford via one of 3 interconnections (principally the Great Road Vault). This water carries a chloramine residual. The local groundwater is treated with free chlorine. Every year (usually in March) Bedford conducts a "chlorine burn" where they close the MWRA vaults and import water from Burlington.
