The Project of Digital Guide Dog

There are about 10 million visually impaired people in the US. It always hard for them to go outside to fit in the world with all the inconveniences. They usually go out with guide dogs. In this project, we would like to create a system called “Digital Guide Dog” to offer them an easier way to avoid hitting any obstacles in a path.

How much does a guide dog cost?

The cost to put one guide dog team – as our guide dog recipients and their guide dogs are known – into service is $48,000. That cost include the breeding, raising, and training of the dog, instruction for the guide dog user, and instruction for the guide dog team.

PDR

Preliminary
Design Review

The PDR presentation in early fall should cover the project’s problem statement, requirement specifications, system-level block diagram and project specifications, as well as the team’s proposed MDR prototype specifications. The advisor and Faculty Review Board may suggest modifications to the proposed MDR prototype specifications at the PDR.

MDR

Midway
Design Review

MDR takes place before the Faculty Review Board and the team advisor near the end of fall semester (see schedule). The hardware and/or software prototype presented should demonstrate that the chosen design path is likely to lead to a completed project in April which meets or exceeds the project specifications.

CDR

Comprehensive
Design Review

At CDR, teams present the final design that has been chosen for prototyping to the review board. It is expected the all design decisions have been completed and can be justified at this point. The prototype at the CDR should demonstrate all major functionality of the finished project.

Final
Design Review

At FDR, Final Design Review is the final phase of the Design Review process. It normally focuses on construction details, finishes, materials, landscaping, and the consistency of the project, with the design, approved during Concept Design Review.

I have a strong interest in the development of single chip microcomputer. I am good at the development of sensors and control systems and system scheme design based on the Internet of things. Mainly responsible for the hardware frame construction and circuit debugging of the project, planning the interface of the microcontroller and conducting the sensor debugging in the later stage.
