Students toured the New Engineering Building
The tour was led
by Tom Shaw of the UMass Planning Office
Steel detailing related to class assignments. Some unusual details included the differences in metal decking shown below (one with soundproofing), and the differences between shear and moment connections, base plate types and leveling, and other design concerns were addressed.
Architectural details were shown as they relate to building design and construction. The metal studs and connections are seen below, and the architectural mock up gave everyone a feel for the components in the final system.
