UTC Student of the Year

Each Year a student is selected as Student of the Year, highlighting his or her achievements and promise for future contributions to the transportation field.

UMass UTC 2011 Outstanding Student of the Year

Andrew Berthaume, M.S. 2010

Mr. Berthaume.s research focused on simulation modeling. Andrew earned his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering in 2009 from the University of Massachusetts and his M.S. in Civil Engineering from UMass in 2010. The title of his thesis is "Modeling the UMass Amherst Emergency Evacuation Plans using VISSIM". He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at UMass, researching case studies on the use of VISSIM for Transit Signal Priority. Andrew has co-authored "Using Simulation Models to Assess the Impacts of Highway Work Zone Strategies: Eight Case Studies along Interstate Highways and State Routes in New England" which he presented and published at TRB 2010, "Estimated Wait Time: Evaluating the Effectiveness of Traffic Simulation Models" which was published in a June 2010 issue of Roads & Bridges Safety Today, and "Evaluation and Implementation of Traffic Simulation Models for Work Zones", NETC 05-08, which he presented in a webinar.
