Paul
E. Torgersen Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University president emeritus Paul E. Torgersen’s lecture was titled “Technology and the Quality of Life.” Torgersen is currently a professor in the department of industrial and systems engineering at Virginia, and he holds the John W. Hancock, Jr. Chair in Engineering. His research interests include organization theory, applied operations research, and quality control. His teaching interests include management systems engineering. Torgersen is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and a fellow of the American Society of Engineering Education.
