Gideon
Argov Gideon Argovs talk, Building Global Strategies with Local Human Beings, focused on the challenges and experiences faced at Kollmorgen in regard to developing an integrated business strategy that crosses national, cultural, and language boundaries. Drawing on his personal and professional backgroundhis life spans serving in the Israeli army to becoming CEO at the age of 35Argov gave tips on business strategies, working as a team, and ethics in business. Prior to the formal lecture, Argov met with engineering students in an informal session. Argov treated the students in a very personal way, Dean Goldstein said. He took a positive interest in what they were doingheres a CEO sitting down with students and taking interest in them and offering advice. It was terrific. Thats where I see the real impact, where a few important statements can make a difference to our students. It was especially fitting that the first speaker for the lecture series should be the CEO of Kollmorgen: the UMass-Kollmorgen Alliance, thriving since April 1998, has included joint proposals, research projects, and co-hosted conferences. Kollmorgen Corporation, with 1997 sales of $230 million, develops and markets high-performance electronic motion control equipment including motors, drives, and systems.
