Wind Energy: Noise White Paper
A major consideration and possible barrier to the installation of wind turbines in Massachusetts is noise. Recently, one wind turbine has been dismantled because of the perceived noise. Noise does not need be an issue if i) turbines are properly designed; ii) appropriate standards are followed; iii) noise measurements are made and the tests results are available; and iv) wind turbine siting is made in accordance with the standards and the characteristics of the candidate machines in mind. The white paper will identify the issues concerning turbine noise.
