Ian Royce Grosse
Ian R. Grosse received the Ph.D. and
M.S. degrees in Mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University, Blacksburg,
VA, in 1987 and 1983, respectively and the
B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell
University in Ithaca,
NY, in 1979.
From 1979 to 1982, Dr. Grosse was a research and development engineer for
Storage Technology, Inc., Louisville, CO.
He joined the University of Massachusetts,
Amherst, MA,
in 1987 where he is currently an Associate Professor. His current research
involves interoperability, reusability, and adaptability of engineering
analysis models, decision-based tradeoffs in engineering design and analysis
modeling, multimedia engineering
software tutor development, finite element modeling, analysis, and model
validation, object-oriented blackboard-based methods for supporting engineering
analysis applications, the application of design of experiment methodologies
and AI techniques for robust design, and
the development of finite-element based design tools for concurrent design.
Dr. Grosse is a member of ASME and the American Academy of Mechanics. He is
also an avid cyclist and hockey enthusiast.
