In the past ten years personal computers have become commonplace both in the home and at the office. The growing popularity of PC's has increased the awareness of negative long term effects caused by sitting at a station which is not ergonomically designed for the user at hand. These effects include body fatigue and eye strain. Our proposal is to design a unit with tray tables which will allow the user to position the monitor, keyboard, and mouse into the positions which he or she feels most comfortable with. The unit will consist of mechanisms to aid in the positioning of these components of the computer. The operation of these mechanisms should in no way impede or deter the operators performance and should be easily manipulated from an upright seated position. The monitor stand will be mounted so as to be height adjustable but will not be tiltable. However, the keyboard and mouse platforms will be adjustable to different angles as well as at different heights. These platforms will also be stowable under the desktop.
