Material Selection Based on Manufacturing Process
Welding Process

Copper
Cu welds easily but preheating and insulating may be needed.
Brass
Brasses can be welded satisfactorily but volatilization of zinc causes problems.
Bronze
Bronze have a wide solidification range, which can lead to porosity and cracking.
Aluminium alloys
Aluminium-silicon alloys can be welded readily, but pure aluminium requires an active flux to remove adherent oxide.
Steel and its alloys
Arc welding is used for steels
Where the steel may be susceptible to brittle fracture, a low hydrogen flux is essential.
