Generally to apply the state dependent queueing model to predict and control the performance of a roadway segment. We will describe
a number of traffic design scenarios for which the queueing model
is appropriate.

  • Experiment 1: Compute Basic Performance Measures. This experiment is intended to familiarize the student with the program inputs/outputs and also demonstrate the nonlinear effects of congestion.
  • Experiment 2: Optimal Number of Lanes. This program is intended to demonstrate the power of the model to optimize the number of lanes N for a given highway segment.
  • Experiment 3: Optimal Input Flow Volume . Finally, we show that we can control the input volume V of traffic so as to optimize the flow of traffic for a given highway segment.
