Turbulence

The equations for fluid flow are well known - they are just a version of Newton's laws of motion, but for fluids the equations are nonlinear. Nonlinearity is why fluids such as waterfalls, breaking waves, fire, and the weather behave in such fascinating ways. Turbulent flow is not random - but it is difficult to predict.

This class explores the tools used to predict turbulent flows.
