The Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP), at the
University of Massachusetts Amherst, invites guidance counselors and teachers
to bring students from their school to attend the annual MEP Career Day. The purpose of the MEP
Career Day is to provide minority students with the opportunity to explore
engineering as a possible career choice. They will meet students currently
studying engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst; hear
a panel of engineers working in industry and see demonstrations and
displays presented by engineering companies.
This program can accommodate 200 students and
adults and the invitations will be sent to all Massachusetts high schools
as well as other friends of the MEP program.
The MEP Career Day 2005 was held on Tuesday March 29th in the Lincoln Campus Center Auditorium with the participation of more than 180 minority high school
students from 18 different high schools across the state. Students had the chance to interact
with industry representatives and UMass engineering faculty, alumni,
and current UMass students. The high school students also had some hands-on
time with the industry interactive displays and were able to take pictures
with an infrared camera brought by Raytheon Systems Company.
