ITE Annual Meeting - San Antonio,
From August 9th -12th, 2009, members of the ITE Student Chapter
attended the ITE Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX. Student
member Samuel Gregorio presented a poster on his graduate
research regarding safety belt usage, while Faculty Advisor
Michael Knodler hosted a conversation circle on getting students
involved in ITE. The UMass ITE Student Chapter was also
recognized as the International Outstanding Student Chapter for
Adopt-A-Highway (RT. 116)
Over the course of the fall semester, the Student Chapter
continued with the MassDOT Highway Section Adopt-A-Highway
Program on the Route 116 Freeway in Hadley, MA. The Chapter
conducted three highway clean-ups over the semester which were
attended by many of the chapter members. The Chapter provided
lunch for all those members who attended.
MAITE / NEITE Meeting - Waltham,
On September 16th, 2009, members of the ITE Student Chapter
attended the joint MAITE / NEITE Meeting in Waltham, MA. This
was the first such professional meeting for many of the student
chapter members and served as a great experience. In addition,
student chapter members Eric Magazu and Chris Ahmadjian, along
with UMass professor John Collura, presented a technical session
entitled "Private-Public Partnerships in Transportaiton."
Fall Semester Potluck
On October 2nd, 2009, the Transportation Prograrm held its fall
semester kick-off potluck dinner. The Potluck was held at the
house of Student Chapter Faculty Advisor Michael Knodler. The
potluck served as a great opportunity for many new chapter
members to get to know other members and the Transporation
Program faculty. It was also an opportunity for students and
faculty to show of their culinary skills.
ITE Webinar - Reducing Bicycle
On October 7th, 2009, the Student Chapter hosted its second ITE
Webinar in the Higgins Room of Marston Hall. 20 students and
faculty attended the webinar over lunch provided by the Student
Chapter. The webinar was entitled "Strategies for Reducing
Collisions Involving Bicycles." The seminar was conducted by
Paul Wojciechowski, Senior Transportation Planner of CH2MHill in
St. Louis, Missouri.
RIITE / NEITE Meeting -
On November 02, 2009, members of he ITE Student Chapter attended
the joint RIITE / NEITE meeting in Providence, RI. Members
attended the day's events, including: the executive business
meeting, technical sessions regarding ADA accessibility, and
dinner. The Student Chapter requested and was granted sections
funds to assist with future chapter activities. The Student
Chapter is thankful to the NEITE for allocating financial
assistance to our organization.
Joint ITE / ASCE Meeting
On November 18th, 2009, the ITE Student Chapter and the UMass
Student Chapter of ASCE held a joint chapter meeting in Marston
Hall. For many civil engineering students who were unfamiliar
with the ITE chapter, this served as a great opportunity for ITE
to put out information on what our chapter is all about. Bill
Lyons, President of Fort Hill Infrastructure Services, gave a
presentation entitled "Transportation and Terrorism: Knowing the
Threat." Over fifty students attended the meeting.
Transportation Program Holiday
On December 4th, 2009, the Transportation Program at UMass
Amherst held its annual holiday party. Students, faculty,
family, and friends gathered and celebrated the holidays with atnding
the "Merry Maple Concert", a
potluck dinner, a Yankee gift swap, and a fun night of Wii
games. The party served as a finally social activity before the
crunch of final exams began. The Student Chapter would like to
thank chapter member Katrina Hecimovic and her husband Austin
NEITE Annual Meeting - Warwick, RI
On December 7th, 2009, members of the ITE Student Chapter
attended the NEITE Annual Meeting in Warwick, RI. Members
attended the day's events including the executive business
meeting, technical sessions, a social hour, and dinner. Faculty
Advisor Michael Knodler completed his duties of President of the
New England Section and was given an award for his service to
the section. Student Chapter member Radhameris Gomez won the
student competition to meet prominent section members. The
meeting served as a great opportunity for students to interact
with transportation professionals.
Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting - Washington D.C.
From January 10th - 14th, 2010, members of the ITE Student Chapter
and the UMass Transportation program attended the TRB Annual meeting in Washington DC. Many students and faculty members of UMass presented their research to the over 10,000 students and professionals that attended. Many ITE Student Chapter members attended the ITE Student Reception at ITE Headquarters.
Bowling Night - Northampton, MA
On February 4th, 2010, members of the ITE Student Chapter
particiapted in the first social event of the semester, bowling at the Northampton Bowling Alley. The event, which consisted of three hours of bowling was also attended by members of the Environmental Engineering Graduate Program. The event was a great success.
