2007 ITE Annual Meeting

Student Chapter members attended the 2007 ITE Annual Meeting and Exhibit in Pittsburg, PA in August. David Hurwitz presented a paper on the way in which Traffic Studies should be scoped. The event was an excellent opportunity to network with transportation professionals from all over the country, attend technical sessions, and learn about the newest technologies, products and services in the Exhibit area.

 


MAITE/NEITE Joint Section Meeting

Student Chapter members attended the MAITE/NEITE Joint Meeting in Needham, MA on September 13, 2007. The Student Chapter attended the technical sessions, social hour, and dinner with keynote speaker, Michael Dukakis, past Governor of MA. He spoke of the critical need for efficient high speed rail corridors to move people and freight efficiently throughout the Northeast corridor. It was an excellent opportunity to meet ITE members from across Massachusetts.


NEITE Annual Meeting

The NEITE Annual Meeting was held on December 3, 2007 in Warwick, RI. Student Chapter members attended the day’s events including technical presentations, a social hour, and dinner. During the dinner session, UMass Student Chapter Faculty Advisor, Michael Knodler, was announced as the NEITE Vice President for the up coming year. The NEITE Annual Meeting was a fantastic opportunity for networking with professional engineers from across the New England region.


2008 ITE Student Reception

On January 14, 2008 Student Chapter members attended the ITE Student Reception held at ITE Headquarters in Washington, DC. Students met with students from other chapters around the country as well as ITE International Officers and staff. As part of the evening, students also heard from officers on employment options and ITE activities. We also had the chance to meet the gentlemen running for the ITE Vice Presidents position.


MAITE Student Research Symposium

On February 22, 2008, the Massachusetts Chapter of ITE held its annual Student Research Symposium in Boston, MA. This year, the event was sponsored by the University of Massachusetts. Four members of the UMass Amherst ITE Student Chapter presented their research and prepared posters on topics ranging from dilemma zones to crash data. Students also participated in the job fair and the opportunity to network with transportation professionals.


2008 ITE Technical Conference

Student Chapter members attended the 2008 ITE Technical Conference and Exhibit in Miami, FL from March 30 to April 1. Student Chapter President, David Hurwitz, had a paper presented on “Signal Timing: Influence of Geometric Roadway Attributes on Dilemma Zone Safety.” at the session on Engineering Countermeasures. Heather Rothenberg presented “Beyond Crash Data: The Application of Multiple Datasets for Highway Safety Analyses.”
