People in the Department
The Department has over 30 faculty members (all holding Ph.D. degrees) and over 10 staff members. In addition to the Department Head and Associate Department Head, the administrative structure includes an Administrative Officer and the Academics Program Office (APO). The APO handles all graduate and undergraduate student affairs directed by the Graduate Program Director, Undergraduate Program Director and APO coordinator.
All Faculty members are engaged in research at the national level. The Faculty currently has nine IEEE Fellows, a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a Fellow of the American Ceramics Society. National research awards include: NSF CAREER Award (Dr. Gao, Dr. Goeckel, Dr. Mettu , Dr. Pishro-Nik, Dr. Polizzi, and Dr. Wolf ); NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award (Dr. Hollot); ARO Young Investigator Program Award (Dr. Frasier); George Axelby Outstanding Paper Award (Dr. Gong); R. W. P. King Best Paper Award (Dr. Janaswamy). All Faculty members are active in their professional societies. Drs. Schaubert and Djaferis have been president of the IEEE Antenna and Propagation and Control Systems Societies respectively. Most faculty members serve as Associate Editors for their societies' journals.
All Faculty members teach graduate and undergraduate courses and many are noted for their teaching excellence. Both Drs. Anderson and Goeckel have received the University's Distinguished Teaching Award, and Drs.Anderson, Djaferis, Goeckel, Tessier and Wolf have received the College of Engineering's Outstanding Teaching Award. Drs. Goeckel, Mettu, Tessier and Wolf were University Lilly Teaching Fellows, Dr. Vouvakis is the present 2008-2009 Lilly Teaching Fellow.
