Engineering Computer Services (ECS) maintains a print quota system on its printers. Graduate and Undergraduate students are allowed a print quota of $5 each semester, which corresponds to 100 pages in black and white or 25 pages in color (each page printed in color is equivalent to 4 pages in black and white).  Page balances do not carry over the following semester therefore the print quota will reset to $5 at the start of Fall and Spring semesters, as well as the start of summer break.

The print quota applies to staff and faculty accounts as well.  However, staff and faculty do not receive an initial quota but may purchase pages through ECS.

The printing rates are based on a charge of $0.05 per page for black and white laser printers, and $0.20 per page for the color laser printer.  Increases to a user's print quota may be purchased through the ECS main office (Marcus 100) at cost of $5.00 per 100 additional black and white pages. The ECS main office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  The office is closed on holidays.

The print server checks the status of a user's quota at the start of a print job.  If the quota is exhausted, no further jobs will print.  If a job will use up the remaining quota, the job will print even if it goes beyond the allotment.  This deficit will be substracted when more pages are added to the quota allotment.  This means that if a user only has 5 pages left on his or her quota, but prints 10 pages, the job will still print.  However, when this user purchases an increase to his or her page limit, a deficit of 5 pages would already exist, leaving the user with 95 available pages.

Printouts sent to the canon_bw or canon_color queues are only available through the ECS main office (Marcus 100) during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  The office is closed on holidays.  For more information about computer labs and schedules go to Computer Labs.
