UMass Amherst Distinguished Lecture Series in Geotechnical Engineering
The series brings outstanding geotechnical engineers to our campus to present a seminar on a topic of their choice to the Massachusetts Civil Engineering community. While on campus, Distinguished Lecturers interact with the UMass Amherst Geotechnical Engineering Group, and students and professors have the opportunity to discuss their research and professional interests with an eminent engineer. Distinguished Lecturers are chosen on the basis of their contributions to and accomplishments in Geotechnical Engineering and their demonstrated ability to mentor young engineers.
Past Lecturers have included:
2006 Dr. Serge Leroueil
"Nature well knows about landslides. Listen to it!"
2004 Dr. Kenneth H. Stoke II
"The Increasing Role of Stress Wave Measurements in Solving Geotechnical Engineering Problems"
2002 Dr. Suzanne Lacasse
"Design, Construction and Maintenance of Infrastructure"
1999 Dr. James K. Mitchell
"Will Modern Engineering Save an Ancient Tower?"
1998 Dr. John H. Schmertmann
