Overview
Umass Amherst geotechnical engineering group plays an active role in regional geotechical engineering community by hosting a variety of events.
The Distinguished Lecture Series in Geotechnical Engineering brings outstanding geotechnical engineers to our campus to present a seminar on a topic of their choice to the Massachusetts Civil Engineering community. While on campus, Distinguished Lecturers interact with the UMass Amherst Geotechnical Engineering Group, and students and professors have the opportunity to discuss their research and professional interests with an eminent engineer.
The Northeast Geotechnical Graduate Research Symposium (NGGRS) gathers graduate students and faculty around the Northeast to share their research. The objective of the NGGRS is to bring together graduate students and faculty in the Northeast to learn what research activities are occurring at the various institutions. The NGGRS symposium features student presentations, invited lectures, and abstract awards sponsored by the industry.
The Geotechnical Engineering Group at UMass Amherst frequently offers short courses on various geotechnical engineering topics. The target audience for these workshops is typically state and federal engineers, private sector engineers, and contractors.
