Submit project proposals through Moodle.
Due Friday, 3/9 at 11:59pm

The goal of the project is to deepen your knowledge in one area of system software research. You can work in groups of 4 people of your choice on the project.

Your written proposal should be in pdf format, and you should submit it by uploading it through Moodle.  The document should be roughly 2 pages in length (double-column in
ACM format with 1 inch margins all around and single-spaced with 10pt font).  Remember to put the name of each group member on the proposal. Your proposal should answer the following questions:

1.  What is the problem you are trying to solve?
2.  What is the state-of-the-art in the problem area you identify and why are existing solutions not sufficient?
3.  What is your initial approach?  Include an explicit hypothesis.
4.  What resources or data do you need to evaluate your approach and how are you going to get the resources or data?
5.  What is a rough timeline for your work?

Note that, while the proposal should answer these questions, it should be written in essay-style, rather than explicitly listing these questions and writing answers to them.

Note that your project must have both an implementation and an evaluative component.  That is, you must implement a software system and then evaluate its performance along some metric, e.g., performance, reliability, etc.

Possible project topics from previous courses are here.
