Pre-Lab 0 : Using Quartus II

In this course you will use Altera’s Quartus II software to describe, simulate and synthesize your design onto programmable logic devices (PLDs). We will use Verilog hardware description language (HDL) for design specification.

Quartus II is available for free from the following link:

http://www.altera.com/products/software/products/quartus2web/sof-quarwebmain.html

  • Download Quartus II from the above link to your PC or use the software on one of the PCs in the lab.

  • Read the simplified Quartus tutorial to familiarize yourself with the software. You can also use the Help section and the embedded Tutorial from the main menu of the software.

  • Write a Verilog code for a 2-bit full adder. Use the Verilog code examples to learn Verilog basics.

  • Simulate your design with Quartus and verify the results.
