551 Lecture Series
ECE 551 lectures will be on Mondays from 3:35-4:25 in VIP Studio C in
Marcus Hall. The lectures will be videotaped and will also use
the WWW and PC demos.
Guest Lectures
Five guest lecturers from the Computer Industry will visit UMASS and
present industrial examples of computer systems emphasizing manufacturing
issues. These lectures will be videotaped by the Video Instructional Program
for later use both on- and off-campus. Each lecture will have a
corresponding introductory lecture by Professor Burleson.
- Bill Larkins, DEKA, Manchester, NH. DEKA manufactures electro-mechanical
systems for medical applications.
- Richie Payne, Analog Devices, Norwood, MA. This lecture describes the
manufacture of micromachined accelerometer chips for use in automobiles.
- John Day, Microchip, Framingham, MA. Microchip manufactures a family of
low-cost microcontrollers and support chips.
- Dhilip Bhavsar, Digital Equipment, Hudson, MA. Dr. Bhavsar will discuss
design-for-test methods used in the lastest ALPHA microprocessors from DEC.
- Tom Kuchta, Cadence Design Systems, Chelmsford, MA. Cadence provides
CAD tools for the design and manufacture of a wide variety of electronic
systems and components.
