Virtual Systems Laboratory (VSL)

"A Web Enabled Portal for Multi-Group Systems Research"

VSL provides new ways for your students to cooperate (or participate) in advanced research projects in systems. We realize that systems research often requires many months worth of infrastructure development and large research groups. We also understand that there is a lot of overlap in these efforts. Our vision is to bridge these efforts, facilitating collaborations on all aspects of systems research beyond traditional means, by leveraging new web based technology such as web services. This not only would help address more ambitious research questions, help us become more productive researchers, attract those of us without the material resources, but also create a community of researchers and graduate students worldwide, an international network for all of us involved. Currently we have research groups from the US, Spain, UK, Hungary, Sweden that joined this network. We welcome you to contribute and participate in this network.

Some of the VSL Objectives include:
     a) International network for graduate students
     b) Web Portal for tools available for Systems Research
         i. Architecture simulators
         ii. Research Compilers
         iii. Bug reporting tools
         iv. Discussion forums
     c) Web portal to research infrastructure developed within VSL
     d) Facilitating collaborations with colleges without PhD programs
     e) Engaging women and minorities in systems research activities
     f) Sharing infrastructure development efforts in large scale multi-group research projects
     g) Student Workshops and Exchanges
     h) Web Portal to Conference Announcements
