With home automation on the horizon and the rise of internet-connected devices, a smart kitchen could be the first room to become automated. Our project implements this idea with an app that could keep track of the ingredients stocked in the kitchen, find recipes, guide shopping, and guide the user through the process of cooking a recipe. Our system integrates the stovetop, oven, microwave, and mobile device into a smooth cooking experience. No one wants to get their messy hands on their touch screen, so we provide voice recognition as an alternative input to the system.

As part of our prototype, we have also fitted an oven and stove burner with microcontrollers allowing Sudo Chef, for example, to preheat the oven to 350° or to turn the stove to a simmer after the soup has been on the burner for 10 minutes, according to directions extracted from whatever recipe the user is following. The mobile app would also vocally guide the cook through the recipe, using text to speech software.

Sudo Chef is the embodiment of the next generation of kitchens. It simplifies the kitchen experience without impeding the user.
