The 3-D room surface temperature mapping project is designed to map and reconstruct a 3-D representation of a room using a LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging). Through the LIDAR and synchronized motion control, we would be able to record accurate distance measurements between the LIDAR and a specfifc surface of the room. Using step motors we can develop a stable mechanism to control the rotation and orientation of the LIDAR. With the help of a programmed microcontroller (Arduino Duemilnove board) we can accurately control and record the distance measurements from the LIDAR. Using MATLAB and our own image processing program in C, we can process the data obtained from the microcontroller and construct a 3-D image representation of the room we had previously scanned.
