Statement of the Problem

Background:

Reconnaissance has been an issue for the military since the creation of ambushes and booby traps. With the desire to know more information about unknown regions, the problem has always been the trade-off between the risk of human life and intelligence gathering. The solution to the problem is to remove the human from the equation, and substitute a replaceable unit to go in the place of the operator, while communicating wirelessly back the information desired.

The Design:

  • Autonomous robotic platform will capture information about its surroundings
  • Wireless communication link will transfer data back to PDA or Laptop

Project Deliverables:

The working demonstration will feature a robotic platform that will drive into a 20x20 room, and proceed to collect data of the surroundings. This data will be then transferred back to the Laptop / PDA, which is then processed to create a 2D floor layout of the room.
