Project Summary

The Player Guitar is a project for SDP ‘07 to have a self-playing slide-fretted guitar, which responds to MIDI input as processed by the MIDI Guitar Tablature from SDP ‘04. The guitar’s physical operation is done with stepper motors driving a slide on a gilmer belt to fret a note, with solenoids to strum and then silence the note when it is done. The note is selected by a MIDI compatible device (MIDI keyboard, electric piano, computer program, etc) and passed to the MIDI Guitar Tablature, which decides where on what string the note should be played and then is physically played in real life in real time by the Player Guitar.
