Now that the presentations are out of the way (and the exams too), we can finally get some work done. For this upcoming Monday, October 27th, 2003: the software team needs to remake the E-R diagram ; the hardware team needs to get that PIC working! And I need to remake the PowerPoint presentation.

    Thoughts on development:
  • Hardware has been chosen by Lam & Aarij as the Garmin GPS 15L / GPS 15L OEM unit; and the MaxStream 900MHz OEM module. The devices will be be interfaced via a peripheral interface controller such as the PIC 16F84. They have been aprooved across the group (by Andrew, Advisor Wolf, and myself).
  • Because of Andrew's forte in writing Java, and the group's experience with java - a Java web application server such as Resin 2.11 on Apache2 may be employed. Resin connects static HTML content with active data retrieved via JDBC/ODBC from an SQL or an Access database (just like the shows).
  • Research on Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) and (Coordinated Universal Time) UTC continues.
  • Fourth draft/revision of specification is now avalible under the preview page. This draft is due on Friday, September 26, 2003.

LAIS meeting today, 2:30~4:30, Gunness. Lam has a conflict until 3:45, and I have one at 4:00. Topics:
  • Hardware for Monday's purchase: Wireless device, WAAS 35 (east coast) + 47 enabled GPS unit.
  • Visio diagrams of hardware system (presented by Lam & Aarij).
  • Visio diagrams of the database system, devise a query format.
  • Research on UTM/UTC grid representations.
