Reliability Model
Reliability is the probability that the computer meets all hard deadlines of critical tasks over the mission period.
A hard deadline can be missed due to:
- Insufficient system capacity
- Failure to recover quickly enough from a fault
- System crash
The operating environment influences:
- Permanent failure rate
- Transient failure rate and duration
- Extent of transient failure correlation
The model can be used to:
- Find good system configurations
- Study tradeoffs between processor and time redundancy
- Assess recovery procedures
