Cool-*
Cool-* (read CoolStar) is a suite of techniques exploiting the
synergy between architectures and compilers for power- and energy-aware
computing. The Cool-* approach introduces compiler-enabled, statically
speculative, low-power microprocessor architectures. The main philosophy
is to leverage static information speculatively and providing support
for static execution modes in addition to other circuit and architecture
level techniques. We estimate that our approach can reduce power
(energy) by 40-70% of a state-of-the-art low-power microprocessor
such as the StrongARM. Cooperating with the Umass
Software Systems and Architecture Lab., the following modules
were developed:
