Ramakrishna Janaswamy is a Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Massachussetts, Amherst, MA. He teaches and conducts research in the areas of theoretical and applied electromagnetics, wireless communications, and mathematical methods for physical problems.

He received his PhD degree in electrical engineering in 1986 from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, the Master's degree in microwave and radar engineering from IIT Kharagpur, India in 1983 and the Bachelor's degree with a Gold Medal for Academic Excellence in electronics and communications engineering from REC Warangal (now NIT Warangal), India in 1981.

From August 1986 to May 1987, he was an Assistant Professor of electrical engineering at Wilkes University, Wilkes Barre, PA. From August 1987 to August 2001 he was on the faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA. In September 2001 he joined the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he is a currently a Professor. He was a visiting researcher at the Center for PersonKommunikation, Aalborg, Denmark from September 1997 to June 1998.

Dr. Janaswamy is a Fellow of Institute of Electrical & Electronics Enginers (IEEE) and was the recipient of the R. W. P. King Prize Paper Award of the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation in 1995. He received the IEEE 3rd Millennium Medal in 2000 in recognition of his "outstanding contributions" to the Santa Clara Valley Section of California. In 2013 he received the Distinguished Foreign Scientist Award from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India. In 2014 he received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the College of Engineering, University of Massachusetts, Amherst. In September 2017, he received the Distinguished Alumni Professional Acheivement Award from the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, India.

He served as an Associate Editor of Radio Science from January 1999 to January 2004, as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology from 2003 to 2006, as an Associate Editor of IETE Technical Review from 2011-2013, as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation August 2010 to July 2016, and as an Associate Editor of IET Electronics Letters from July 2015 to July 2017. Since 2013 he has been a member of the IEEE Antennas and Wave Propagation Standards Committee. He is also on the Editorial Board of International Journal on Advances in Microwave Technology, India and served/serving as a Technical Program Chair/Vice-Chair at IEEE sponsored 2017 AEMC and 2018 InCAP. He is the author of the book Radiowave Propagation and Smart Antennas for Wireless Communications, Kluwer Academic Publishers, November 2000.
