ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Chapter 4 Homework Assignment (Due Nov 19th): 4.1, 4.2, 4.11, 4.16, 4.17 and 4.31

MAJOR COURSE TOPICS

  • Electromagnetic Theory: Maxwell's equations, boundary conditions, the wave equation, energy and power, image theory
  • Transmission Line Theory: Lumped element equivalent, field analysis, the Smith chart, impedance mismatches
  • Waveguides: TEM, TE and TM waves, Parallel plate waveguide, Rectangular waveguide, Coaxial lines, Stripline and microstrip
  • Microwave Network Analysis: Equivalent voltages and current, impedance, admittance, scattering and ABCD matrices, source functions for waveguides.
  • Impedance Matching and Tuning: lumped element, single stub and double stub tuning, multisection matching transformers.
  • Microwave Resonators: series and parallel resonant circuits, transmission line resonators, waveguide cavity resonators, dielectric resonators.
