Advances in System Theory is a Symposium held to honor Sanjoy K. Mitter, a distinguished member of our scientific community, on the occasion of his 65th birthday. The event is co-sponsored by the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and will be held October 15-16, 1999, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. The Symposium General Chair is Theodore E. Djaferis of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, USA. Former students, colleagues and friends extend to all a warm invitation for this exciting technical event which is a celebration of the accomplishments of Sanjoy K. Mitter. The venue is the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA which is located on the banks of the Charles river right across from downtown Boston. All are welcomed to participate in the Symposium and also enjoy the natural charm, cultural heritage, and fine dining of the Boston area. We are delighted to report that Eugene Wong, Assistant Director for Engineering at NSF, has graciously accepted to give the keynote address at the banquet.
