Microstrip Antenna Array As part of his MS thesis, Sridhar Kadambala (right) worked with me to develop this 64-element microstrip dual-pol patch array antenna, shown here after mechanical assembly. The antenna is being used by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for ground-based measurements at 1.413 GHz of brightness temperatures of bare and vegetated soil. Each square dual-pol patch element is fed by a custom-designed feed network comprised of 18 8-way stripline power dividers. The array and power divider network are held in place by an aluminum strongback structure. Jim Bertram, a technician with the UMass Microwave Remote Sensing Lab, provided outstanding technical support for this project. Sridhar completed his MS thesis requirements in 2002 and is now on the Technical Staff of Analog Devices Inc., Norwood, Massachusetts. |
