Our current research efforts are focused on the development of integrated modeling and control strategies for the polymer, consumer products, and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries. A unifying theme for these diverse problems is the key role of particles in the manufacturing process and in the final product properties. Therefore we have substantial research and development efforts aimed at on-line measurement, dynamic modeling, and real-time control of particle distributions. An integrated program of experimental, theoretical, and computational studies is pursued to ensure the process technology has a sound fundamental basis and industrial applicability. We also have active research projects in more traditional areas of chemical processing including cryogenic air separations and pulp and paper manufacturing.
