Chemical Engineering is often thought of as being
process design -- running plants to create materials, chemicals,
and other substances. However, since it is such a diverse field
it ties into many, if not all of the major sciences and many
other fields.
Aside from in Chemical
Process Industries, Chemical Engineers have found positions
in fields such as: Electronics,
Environmental, Fuels, Advanced Materials, Design and Construction,
Biotechnology,
Foods and Beverages, and even
Business, Law, and the Government.
UMass Chemical Engineers have made their way to many
different jobs and fields. Some recent graduates now work for
drug delivery companies or for Kraft foods doing process research
and development. Others have gone on to teaching and faculty
positions. One famous graduate, Jack Welch, graduated with a
BS in Chemical Engineering in 1957, and has been CEO of General
Electric since 1981. There is no limit to where a chemical engineering
degree can take you!
