Engineering Career Skills

You'll learn many important things in your next few years in the ChE program here, such as Mass Balances, flowsheets, and Unit Processes. However, the most important skills you will learn are not exclusive to Chemical Engineering. These career skills are necessary for any career you may choose, and are necessary for you to learn during your first year at UMass.

Brainstorming is a good way to start off almost anything else. Having good brainstorming skills enables you to diversify your mind and to have more creative answers and ideas than you would otherwise.

Technical Writing and Presenting skills are necessary for not only your classes, but for your future career. If you can't communicate via voice or by paper, you'll have a hard time doing almost anything in engineering.

Being able to write a good Résumé and being prepared for an Interview are both essential for jobhunting, or applying for a Co-op or internship.
