CEE434 Students toured the construction of the Champions Center basketball training facility. This was a large span structure for practice basketball courts and training. The long span roof trusses and slender columns under the walkway are shown.
Unusual features are the thermal break at cantilevers and moment connection to an HSS column (moment in and out of page, pin connection left to right) shown below.
Bracing and the further trades of cold formed steel and utilities are shown.
Finally the cladding details can be clearly seen in the construction photos below. Note the gap behind the brick facade for air flow and drainage and the regular expansion joints on the completed facade - a clear indication that it is a facade rather than a masonry structural system.
