ASSISTANTSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS
Financial aid is offered through research and teaching assistantships. The exact
number of these assistantships is subject to change depending upon renewal of grants,
available departmental support, etc. Assistantships provide a stipend plus a tuition
wavier. The amount of stipend depends on a number of factors, degree being pursued and the
student's experience and background. The tuition waiver exempts students from paying
tuition and, in effect, increases the total value of an assistantship. The Department has
a limited number of fellowships for graduate study. Priority for award of these
fellowships will be for qualified people from groups that traditionally have been
underrepresented in the field, primarily minorities and women.
