Pio Lombardo, P.E.

Pio Lombardo, PE, President of Lombardo Associates , Inc. of Newton, MA has over 30 years of experience in innovative wastewater management. He has been the Engineer-of-Record for innovative wastewater projects with capital costs greater than $200 million that are operating in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Georgia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. He has a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington and B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, cum laude. He also received an executive education from the Harvard business school. Mr. Lombardo is a member of the Tau Beta Engineering Honor Society, Water Environment Federation, the American Water Works Association, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He engineered one of the first on-site wastewater management districts in 1980.

Mr. Lombardo has been a contributor to and co-authored numerous EPA manuals since 1979, including the recent On-Site and Wetlands Manuals, and Planning Wastewater Management Systems for Small Communities. He is currently completing a Cluster Wastewater Systems Planning Manual for the US Congressionally funded National Decentralized Water Resources Capacity Development Project , as well as a Septic System Phosphorous Geochemistry Handbook.

Mr. Lombardo has engineered over 200 septic systems, 20+ cluster systems ranging in size from 2 to 200 households, and a 0.9 MGD innovative wastewater treatment system using constructed wetlands and recirculating filters. Mr. Lombardo is the recipient of the prestigious American Consulting Engineer's Council Engineering Excellence Award and an Engineering News Record Construction Man of the Year candidate award.
