Blackstone Bikeway Bridge

Northwest Road (Blackstone River Bikeway) - Millbury

The Northwest Road Bridge originally was located in Westfield, Hampden County spanning the Little River. The bridge was removed and relocated by MHD to Uxbridge, Ma. where it currently is being used as part of a bike trail over the Blackstone River. The bridge was constructed in 1887 with a span of 74 ft. The bridge is a pin-connected six panel pony truss configuration. The end posts and upper chords are composed of a built-up open box section consisting of 4 - 1 ¾ in. angles and a 4 in. plate and two seven in. plates. The lower chords consists of 1" x 3" eyebars. The vertical members connecting the upper and lower chords are tapered consisting of four 1 ¾ in. x 1 ¾ in. angles with riveted flat bars forming an X. Diagonal bracing is 1 ¼ " diameter rods.
